Club notes, April 30, 2009

Thursday, Pretty Pollution and the Pity Whores open for The Flock at the Lucky Dog; and Rick Berlin's singing at Nick's.

Friday, welcoming May with a bunch of good shows. Sunlea Sunbeam, Whisper Campaign, Another Option and Mass Octane split the bill at the Lucky Dog; Paganfest America part II takes over The Palladium; Tom Beaudreau sings at Spirits Lounge; Ed and Dave are back at Greendale's; Bill McCarthy's bringing his guitar to Al Fresco; Dan Burke's singing at Nick's; The Sift headlines Ralph's; Beatles for Sale are at the Old Post Office Pub; Raposo rocks JJ's in Northboro; Captain Cutthroat joins Whisper Campaign at the Lucky Dog; The Knot's doing the Dead (mostly) at Tammany Hall; and Rose Colored Glasses nabbed a last minute show at JJ's in Northboro.

Saturday, it's a Radix's “Welcome Home” show with DJ Shorty & Ryan Durkin, Family Business, 16 Lips, Junclassic, Chrishendo, Poorly Drawn People, FTC, Black Element and of course RADiX at the Lucky Dog; The Chariot pulls in upstairs at the Palladium with Car Bomb; Sarah Kollet opens for Grand Evolution and Captured – The Journey Show - at Tammany Hall; The Peacheaters pay tribute to The Allman Brothers at PJ's on West Boylston Street; Fourth Gear rocks The Nines; Dave Magario sings at the Bean Counter, Bill McCarthy's got his guitar at Junior's Pizza; Uncle Billy's Smokehouse is down at Chaser's; Public Uproar debuts at the Wheelock Inn in Millbury; Clamdigger's in the sand at Emerald Isle; Nightworks does the blues at Gilrein's; Jubilee Gardens returns to the Sahara; Probable Cause does covers at Irish Times; Fergus plays contemporary Irish tunes at the Galway Bay; Ken Macy returns to Block5; Ten Foot Pole Cats howl at Vincent's; and what a night at Ralph's with WBCN battle of the bands winner The Luxury along with Wheat, Huck and Preacher Roe.

Every Wednesday at the Lucky Dog Music Hall is Mister Smartass Theater, this week featuring "The Giant Claw.”

Other notables:
On Friday, there's a fun “overknight” at Higgins Armory Museum, a program for elementary school aged kids that features a medieval meal, crafts, programs and more. Also, Seven Hills Charter Public Schools puts on Alice in Wonderland Jr. at Quinsigamond Community College's Hebert Auditorium. The Master Singers of Worcester host a wine tasting and auction at the Pakachoag Church in Auburn.

Saturday, the Worcester Pub Run takes off from the Greyhound Pub in Kelley Square at 1 p.m. The Worcester Public Library is showing the film The Music Man for free at 2 p.m. The hilarious Louis CK is at the Hanover Theatre. Nunsense II: the Second Coming is on stage at Girls Inc. The Berlin Town Hall is home to the New England Contra Dance.

On Friday and Saturday, Freddie Stone's the headlining comedian at the Beantown Comedy Escape at the Crowne Plaza.

Doubt is still on stage at Foothills through May 10.

Throughout May, the Massasoit Art Guild's “Five Artists ... One Heart” is on exhibit at 12 Crane in Southbridge. Works are in oils, acrylics, pastels and photos from a variety of artists.
Westboro Rotary Club's spring festival at Westboro High School, which includes a 5K run.

And Monday, the Sole Proprietor and the Wine Vine pair up for a wine pairing education dinner in the Wine Vine's Tasting Loft. Enjoy a six course dinner matched with the appropriate wines from 5:30-8:30 p.m. with guest chef Dominic Mercurio.
